Sticky pistons don't pull blocks back underneath y-level 2

I was wondering why a redstone door I made didn't work, but an identical one did still work, and after fiddling around I found out that if a sticky piston isn't at y-level 2 or higher, it can still push, but doesn't pull blocks.
