Animals freezing then minecraft crashes 30 minutes later

Animals just freeze in place after half an hour of playing (everything else keeps working as normal). Another half an hour after that crashes the game (total system freeze). Have not received hotfix for 1.16.100 and have no idea how to manually download this.
