loading area patterns

Areas that look like they are supposed to be mountains or plains are replaced with strange masses of gravel and little lines of grass sprinkled in. I noticed this while messing around in creating and searching for a village. I traveled only a few hundred blocks and saw maybe 3 strange gravel valleys like this. Just something strange I saw, no clue If it's due to the latest update or what
