Nether Portal Problem

When I go through a nether portal from the overworld to the Nether I get teleported to the corner of the nether portal inside the block. The game gets stuck for a few moments before it teleports me near the nether portal and creates a new one. Even if I destroy or move the nether portal it still happens.
