Wood Blocks can't be stripped anymore?

I'm not sure if this is actually a bug or if this is meant by design. But after the so called parity update, it seems like I cannot strip wooden blocks anymore. I can still strip the LOG, but not the actual WOODEN block. Is this meant by design? Or no?
