Villagers go through walls

Villagers in the 1.16.100 update are travelling through wall apon contact/collision when the sleep, breaking the bed or morning will return the villager unharmed, they do not seem to suffocate but I don't want to find out what lava or being underwater may do. this applies to realms and single player worlds
