Switch Edition will not update to latest version

Hello,  my issues is on the Nintendo Switch Version which appears to be stuck on version 1.16.100.  As a result, I am not able to play online with friends as it give me an error saying "outdated server"  My friends online world appears to be version 1.16.40.  I see online this version was released for switch back in Sept.  I was able to play with them a few days ago with no problems but today I am not.  I tried to "update software" on the switch but it says I am already running the latest version.  I have a physical copy of the game if that matters.

Any suggestions?
