Unable to connect to Realms from cellular data

After updating PE minecraft I found that I could no longer join my friends realm from my cell data. I changed the setting to use cell data but it still says I need wifi. I can join just fine over wifi but I'm often unable to be connected to wifi and need to be able to use my cell data. A friend of mine who also uses pocket edition is experiencing the same issue. I've attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the app and restarting my internet but nothing has worked.
