"You must be connected to wifi to Play with your friends"/ Unable to connect to multiplayer worlds when using mobile data

When trying to join a multiplayer world, a realm or a server while using mobile data it doesn't let you connect and shows a "You must be connected to wifi to play with your friends" message even though you enabled the "use cellular data" setting. Fixing this bug is an emergency since a big portion of players don't have acess to wifi including me and I just can't play at all.
