Won't update past 1.16.100 and no online functionality

My minecraft was working fine a couple of weeks ago.  Now, it won't let me do anything online (can't get to marketplace, can't play with friends, can't access servers) and it tells me that I am on Minecraft version 1.16.100.

I tried forcing an update to the Minecraft software, and it keeps telling me that I have the latest version, which I know is not true...I'm at least 2 versions behind.

The weird thing is, I think I was on 1.16.40 a few weeks ago...I have no idea how it lost the information.

My internet service is fine...my son also has a switch with a separate minecraft card and he is able to do everything perfectly.  So, it's not our internet.

Please help me get the software functional again.
