Unable to join friends worlds regardless of different ways of trying

No matter how many times i try to join a friends world I get the error unable to connect to world.  I have tried to just click on the name, invite to the world and nothing works.  I have also signed out and signed back in but I keep getting errors.  I have tried to search for other solutions on the internet but nothing has seemed to work.  If this is something that you could let me know how to fix or work around i would appreciate.
