Multiplayer bug

Im trying to join my friends that play on Xbox. I'm on iOS but should still be able to join them. It says that they're online in the Xbox app but I can't join them in Minecraft and they can't join me either. It says that 1.16.50 is compatible with the current Xbox version but still doesn't work.
