Villager clothing texture is displaying as solid black on Apple iPad Air 4

Villager clothing textures appear as solid black. Skin and job textures display properly.

This bug is happening on fresh install on iPad Air 4 with no resource packs downloaded or enabled. Works fine on iPhone 8 Plus.  

steps to reproduce

buy iPad Air

install Minecraft 

play Minecraft

find a village

look at villager
