I lost a lot of items In a double chest

I am playing minecraft and I put in my items in a double chest I press save and quit but when I get back in the world half of my items is gone I go into another world and the same thing happens pleas fix this I had 4 dimands and other valuable ores this is Minecraft beta v1.16.200.51
