my game wont let me access my inventory and doesnt show me moving to others online on ps4

when I join my friends on ps4 I cant access my inventory or use anything on my hotbar for example eating food on my screen I appear to be playing fine except I cant pick up blocks I place but on my friends I stay in the one spot and don't move and am unable to play
