Unable to connect to world

hello i have just brought gold to play online minecraft. my friend cant see my name in the friends list and when i invite them it loads and then says unable to connect to world. the same goes for me trying to join them but i can see the name in the friends tab. i am on Xbox One S they are on ipad ios14.0 both of us are on the latest update. just leting you guys know about this.
