Win10 Audio Corruption on Razer USB headsets

When using a Razer Kraken 7.1 USB headset, with the Razer Synapse (latest version) software installed, the only sound that can be heard from the application is a very loud crackling. Changing the audio level in-game doesn't affect the loudness of the noise. The game is unplayable normally with this issue.
