Some chat from realms doesn't display until I open a different world

On two separate occasions now I haven't been able to read any chat from some people (other people's messages appear but without context) until I open up a singleplayer world and it all appears at once. 

 

This is a major problem, as the whole point of realms is to play and talk with other people.
