Swords take damage by destroying instant destroy blocks

How to reproduce:
1.Place 10 torches in 2 rows- 20 Torches
2. Craft a wooden sword and a how/pick/shovel
3. Destroy torches in row 1 with the hoe
4. Destroy torches in row 2 with sword

Conclusion-
Sword receives damage.

Tried the experiment with a hoe and a sword
