Missing recipes

I have no recipes in my crafting table for: sticks, planks, fences, torches and probably other things, but that is all that I want at the beginning of a game, so I haven't come across any others yet and can't think of any to look for them. I started a new world and noticed this, so logged into my old worlds to check them, and it's now the same with them too?
