When second player on split screen tries to join the world the screen is stuck on generating worlds

We never had issues with split screen before.  Since a couple of weeks now when the second player tries to join through split screen they can't because it stays stuck on generating world-building terrain.  It is frustrating as we have no access to our world  except alone. We tried restarting and checking on settings but nothing has changed
