Book and Quill wont let me Sign it.

So i Spent 10 Mins making a book in Minecraft and when i tried to sign it nothing would happen, i spamed it, nothing. it only happens with its about a page long or longer. I tried getting the book with commands and still did the same thing. i gave it a name and author name. i tried to restart minecraft and still woudent work... Plz help
