World of Cars crashing after loading map on iPad, android and Nintendo Switch

Partner Rank: 1
 (No work around)

Verification builds:
1.16.20

Summary:
This issue has been reported on across iPad, Android, PS4 and Nintendo Switch editions, though there was a significant spike in reports in July/August 2020 following the release of 1.16. There have been no confirmed reports on Windows 10 or Xbox editions at the time of writing.

Players report that when starting a World of Cars world from the world template as normal, the map stalls and ultimately fails to load, crashing and sending players back to the main menu, without them entering the map.

Our current recommendations to fix this issue has been to ask players to clear their Minecraft and device caches and re-install World of Cars from the store, but they still report crashes from start up. We also waited for the 1.16.2 update in August 2020, in the light of our PS4 bug report,(https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCM-1076) which we hoped would resolve the issue, but these issues have continued to be reported.

In-house tests have including testing on some of the devices specified in the reports but we were unable to replicate the crash. As we've been unable to replicate the issue in any of our tests, I've compiled the reports into one document with all the details I've been able to gather. This document is linked in the mco-noxcrew slack channel, Greg and Quinn should be able to get the link.

Impact:
We received several emails from people telling us about World of Car crashing on start up on mobile device, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

This issues will result in lower ratings, negative social media, more customer complaints, and potential refunds.
