unable to launch and play. first time users

We are first time users and are unsure how to fix this issue. I keep getting this message when trying to launch the game and play.....

The game crashed whilst initializing game
Error: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated

I have made sure we are up to date on all the latest updates or versions to our computer. Is it something I am doing incorrectly or need to fix on my end or is it something that needs to be fixed by your end. please help us.
