Can't launch and play the latest release of minecraft

When I press play,it says there is an error and it is unable to download.I tried uninstalling minecraft then installing it and deleting the minecraft folder to restart it.But nothing worked.It says the latest release is 1.12.2 but when i tried putting 1.12.2 as a version
