Realms not working "Invalid session"

Logged into Minecraft to find realms unresponsive. Says "Invalid Session" and that i should restart minecraft. Doing so does nothing to resolve the issue. Logging out and back in of my account doesn't help either. There's usually a little flashing diamond shape next to the "minecraft Realms" tab that isn't there, not sure if that's a clue as to whats going on. I've read that i need a new session I.D. to resolve the issue and logging in and out of my account should do just that but nothing works.
