Minecraft won't launch

My Minecraft game won't launch.

What I expected to happen was that I would press the play button and the game would launch.

What actually happened was I pressed the play button and the loading bar didn't load.

1. Open the launcher (automatically logged in).
2. Press "Download 1.11.2-Latest Release" button.
3. Loading bar says "preparing" but goes no further.
