Says Play Offline on the new launcher.

When ever I start up minecraft I go to click play but it says "Play offline" so I clicked it because I didn't think much of it then but I went to join hypixel and it said " This server is currently down for maitence" even though it said they had like 50 thousand more people on so I tried a different server and it said the same thing. someone please help
