Cant play on servers

i cant play on any servers, i click on multiplayer and select the a server i want to play on and it keeps saying Failed to connect to the server and normally it allows me to play on it but now its not letting me connect also my skin isnt showing up anymore on singleplayer normally my skin is there but now it doesnt show up anymore and im automatically in the alex skin
