either game or launcher crashes on several versions

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected the game would start, as I started it on 1.7.10

What actually happened was...:
While starting the game the launcher crashed however the game was still running.
The Mojang loading screen appeared, then disappeared. Awaiting the game to start I finally realized it has crashed, because it was not shown in the task manager.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put Minecraft version 1.7.10 on
2. Start Minecraft
3. The launcher usually crashes at this point, however Minecraft is still runnning.
4. The Mojang screen window opens and a few moments later closes again
5. Have fun not playing Minecraft because it crashed
