Can't Update

I know there is a new update," 1.12." But, I can't seem to update it even if it say, "Latest release 1.11.2." So I am stuck with 1.11.2.

What I expected to happen was that when I saw a YT vid and saw new blocks I went right to MC to go test them out but it didn't let me update it.

What actually happened was after the new launcher it made it looked more complex and confusing so I didn't get most things, but I soon got how to use it but after that it doesn't let me update again to a new one. It is still 1.11.2.
