New Launcher starts but then the screen returns to desktop and nothing happens. When I press play button it says the game is already running

All worked fine until new Launcher was added. Start launcher, press green play button, nothing happens, leave it a while and press play again and it says game already running but its not open anywhere on system. Have updated Java and restarted computer but cannot access game
