Minecraft Launcher shows white screen

I have jave 8 and I have issues opening the minecraft launcher. I have windows 7. I got the new update yesterday and when I opened the new launcher the screen of it became white and it would not load for hours upon end. Is there a way to resolve or is it my computer it self. Is minecraft for windows 7 anymore?
