Windows: "Minecraft launcher has stopped working" on launcher startup

Fresh install of minecraft.
New launcher running 1.11.2 0 latest version.
No mods
Upon clicking the PLAY button, I get a "Minecraft has stopped working" dialog window 9 our of 10 times. The Error is listed as " Internal error" I am unable to click on the button for further assistance given that there is a dialog box open telling me that minecraft launcher has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. - CLOSE PROGRAM.

It crashes on the news and skin pages, however, if I change to the settings page, the game starts without issue.
