Symlinks not working for new launcher

Symbolic links are used to reference other files or directories. My default ".minecraft" directory is a symlink that redirects to another location. In previous Minecraft launchers, this worked flawlessly. The new launcher says "The game directory is invalid or inaccessible."

What I expected to happen was...:
Launch game using redirected ".minecraft" directory.

What actually happened was...:
Game directory is invalid or inaccessible. Profile fails to launch.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Cut and paste ".minecraft" to another drive.
2. Create a symbolic link at C:/Users/<user>/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft that points to the new ".minecraft" location.
3. Launch a profile.
