Every time I hit play it says "the version you are trying to play inherits properties from an unknown version".

I have never had any trouble with launching my game til the new launcher came out. Now every time I hit play it says "the version you are trying to play inherits properties from an unknown version" I don't even know what that means anf furthermore I am completely locked out of Minecraft.
