When i click the play button it doesnt do anything. (in minecraft 1.9)

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected that i will open minecraft and start playing

What actually happened was...:
It didn't work

Steps to Reproduce:
1. you open minecraft
2.you put version 1.9
3.you click play and nothing happens
