Minecraft only starts after 1.8.1, giving error message otherwise.
When I attempt launching Minecraft in a version later than 1.8.1, I get this error message:

It may have something to do with the fact that it only started occurring right after I restored a world from backup on a USB that had the entire .minecraft folder in it, with the "versions" folder therein only updated up to 1.8.1. It doesn't seem like it would affect it in that way, but it doesn't seem like a coincidence either.
