when i open my minecraft launcher won't let me hit the play button or log into my account

i downloaded the new minecraft launcher 1.4.2 and when i opened it to log on
i wait for about a min and when it opens i can't login or hit the play button its stuck on welcome guest please log in. I don't know how it happen or why its happening please help.
