Minecraft launcher crashes after exiting but no visible crash on screen

When exiting the minecraft launcher by pressing X on the top right, the launcher will close normally without any errors, but after 3-5 seconds Minecraft.exe crash report will appear in the event viewer and reliability monitor.

Exception code: 0x80000003 

There is no error in the launcher log but there is one in the cef log.

[0105/204505.731:FATAL:check.cc(376)] Check failed: false. NOTREACHED log messages are omitted in official builds. Sorry!
