Minecraft Launcher for MacOS will not start up

I just bought Minecraft and downloaded the Launcher. But the launcher won't start up and freezes after downloading files.

 

I am on Macbook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel chip, Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93). 

The MacOS Launcher is downloaded from here:
https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download

I have java 23 installed.
