Sign-in on MacOS blocked by missing Windows Product Activation file

The most recent version I played is 24w14potato, on 6/25/24. I opened the launcher today and had to sign in again. After signing into my Microsoft account, I got this error message, and I could not proceed to play:

Error Code: 0x80004005 code: Eroded Badlands. A file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. Please reboot, verify system permissions, and make sure your operating system is up-to-date. For more information, go HERE or contact Customer Support directly.
