Minecraft java version and java runtime

when I want to play java it only shows the latest release being 1.19.4 and I cannot play any older versions then the snapshot being 1.19.4 and latest release but there is another problem because when the game was 1.19.4 i can play normally but then when the new updates come out i cannot play because it kept telling me this:
Unable to locate the Java runtime.

someone please help because i dont want to switch from desktop to laptop every time
