Minecraft launcher keeps flicking between offline and online

Minecraft launcher keeps switching between play offline and play very quickly. My internet connection is fine. I am able to launch the game but when minecraft has loaded, joining online server prompts me with the message session ID invalid try restarting your game. Restarting the game launcher and pc does not solve this issue.
