launcher always crashes

Hi,

 

The minecraft launcher is crashing every time it starts, so I am unable to run minecraft on my pc.

When I click on the launcher icon, I just get a window pop up saying "The game has crashed, error code 0x1"

An older mojang version of the launcher used to work fine, but its updated to an xbox version from the windows store, and that just won't run. I've updated, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it just keeps crashing.

Fortunately my Autistic children also have minecraft on their Nintendo switches, so are still able to get their minecraft fix, but they would like to be able to play on the pc too,  but that simply doesn't work anymore.
