Minecraft Launcher showing wrong username under Accounts tab

Tried to play Realms (Java edition) with a friend, he said he could not find my Minecraft username. Went to the Minecraft website to change it. He found it, but now my launcher is still showing the old username and it has not changed. Also I never received the invitation to his Minecraft realm after he sent the invitation.
