"This profile name already exists", despite it being available

I have wanted to update my minecraft username, but whenever I attempt to enter it, it says "This profile name already exists", even though - after checking on username searchers - it is not.

Is there any reason for this? Or is this not supposed to be happening? I'm a little confused.
