my brother's launcher cannot download 1.20.1

Whenever my brother tries to download Minecraft Java 1.20.1 on his computer, the install crashes before it reaches a point where the Forge patcher will register the installation.

Note: This bug affects launcher version 2.17.11, but I can't put that.
