Update button in launcher appears to do nothing until it gets killed

When clicking Update in the launcher for Bedrock, nothing seems to happen. It turns out it actually downloads from Microsoft Store in the background, but this isn't apparent to the user.

I started a world, and then the update completed in the background and killed the app, corrupting the world. Luckily I have backups.
