We are unable to verify what products you own - failed to download file and wont launch

I changed my account name because it was based on my deadname. So I changed it on microsoft/xbox from Mx_Mel to PeterAtGates. No matter what I do the launcher still says Mx_Mel when I look under all accounts. I paid to have the tag changed so that old one shouldn't exist anymore. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the launcher multiple times. I have also removed minecraft folders and files on my computer before reinstalling. I have installed the launcher from mojang. And I have tried installing from the app store on windows. I am logged into my account on microsoft and the app store confirms I own a copy of the game. Yet when I load the launcher and log in it says its unable to verify what products I own. 

 

Then the game will not launch. 

 

This time around it gave me this error when I tried to launch: 
Failed to download file.

I have been trying to get it to work for weeks and nothing I do fixes it. And there seems to be a disconnect between the microsoft account and the launcher.
